POTENTIAL MAN is one of those indie games that looks like a joke and kind of is one, but there’s something weirdly addictive hiding underneath all the stupidity. The setup is simple: you’re a guy who never lived up to his potential, and the whole game is about proving people wrong by doing a bunch of ridiculous physical challenges that range from mildly impressive to completely pointless. The gameplay is a mix of ragdoll physics, light platforming, and open sandbox chaos. You stumble around a small map trying to complete objectives, and the objectives are all over the place—climb a building, launch yourself off a ramp, fight a random stranger for no reason, stack boxes until something breaks. The controls are deliberately janky, so just staying upright is half the battle, and honestly that’s where most of the comedy comes from. Watching your guy trip over a curb and faceplant into a trash can never really stops being funny.

There’s a progression system where finishing challenges gives you points, and those points unlock new abilities, cosmetics, and new areas to explore. It’s not deep, but it gives you a reason to keep messing around instead of just wandering aimlessly. There’s also a day-night cycle and random events that pop up, so the world feels alive even though it’s clearly held together with duct tape and good intentions.

It’s not a polished game. It’s buggy, the physics go haywire constantly, and the humor is dumb in a way that won’t land for everyone. But if you’ve ever enjoyed Goat Simulator or Dude Simulator 2, you’ll know exactly what you’re getting into. And here’s the thing—underneath all the chaos, there’s a surprisingly sincere message about self-improvement and not letting other people define what you’re capable of. It’s cheesy, sure. But it lands better than you’d expect from a game where you can knock yourself unconscious with your own shopping cart.
