Seek is a pixel-art survival horror game from solo developer cloud_li, where classical music and psychological dread collide inside a frozen orphanage. Alice wakes up somewhere she doesn’t recognize, and nothing about it makes sense. The place is an orphanage, but it’s wrapped in ice, the corridors don’t stay put, and something in the shadows is clearly waiting for her to make a mistake. Seek drops you into that nightmare with very little hand-holding and a soundtrack of eerie classical music that never lets your shoulders relax.

The game plays from a top-down view in a pixel-art style that looks charming right up until it doesn’t. You explore the building piece by piece, collecting items that unlock new areas, and you quickly learn that the layout isn’t something you can fully trust. Sudden, unexplained changes can happen while you’re exploring, which keeps even familiar rooms feeling dangerous. Along the way you’ll pick up firearms to defend yourself, but ammo and supplies are limited, so every fight is a decision. Do you spend resources, or sneak past and hope for the best?

Puzzles are the other half of the experience. You gather clues, read between the lines and piece together what actually happened inside these walls. The story unfolds slowly, and it isn’t a gentle one. By the time the truth starts to surface, you’ll understand why the developer calls it a nightmare you can’t wake up from. Steam players also point to multiple endings, which gives the story some replay value.

One honest heads-up: this is a dark game. The developer lists adult themes, including sexual violence, domestic violence, abortion and suicide, so it’s worth knowing what you’re getting into before you start. If that doesn’t put you off, and you like atmospheric, story-driven horror with tense resource management, Seek is a strong pick for the price. Headphones are recommended.
