BeaterCore is a vehicular combat and survival game defined by a love of junk cars, wild driving, and makeshift destruction, putting the player in control of poorly functioning ‘beater’ vehicles held together by duct tape, hope, and a great deal of determination. The game unfolds through scavenging, reinforcing the vehicles, and fighting in a vast post-industrial wasteland where each scratch, dent, and missing bumper has a story to tell, and where the line between a roadworthy vehicle and a moving deathtrap is wonderfully blurred.

Players begin with a heap of rusted metal that has only just about enough power to start, then go into hazardous scrap areas to take parts from derelict cars, weld on armour plates, swap engines and build weapons from scratch—such as harpoon guns mounted on the roof, oil slicks and smoke screens—while at the same time having to avoid rival scavengers, marauding gangs and environmental dangers like collapsing overpasses and toxic waste leaks.

The game’s driving is intentionally loose and unpredictable, since each vehicle has its own odd handling traits depending on how badly it’s worn out, so a missing shock absorber or bent axle can turn a simple turn into a life-or-death situation.
