YAMIGATARI: FOR3ST is a lo-fi Japanese walking sim horror that places you in a cursed forest with only a flashlight, a vague sense of direction, and the growing feeling that something is stalking you through the trees. The core gameplay loop revolves around slow-paced exploration, environmental storytelling, and creating dread through sound and silence. You wander along narrow dirt paths, abandoned shrines, and creepy little clearings, picking up notes, tapes, and objects that slowly piece together what happened here—and why the forest doesn’t want you to leave. There’s no combat, no sprinting away from monsters, and barely any jumpscares in the traditional sense.

Instead, the game messes with your head using subtle stuff: a figure standing just at the edge of your flashlight beam, footsteps behind you that stop when you stop, a path that loops back on itself no matter how many times you walk it. Your phone or camera acts as your main tool, letting you snap photos of strange things you find, some of which only show up in the picture after you take it, which is a genuinely unsettling mechanic. The atmosphere is thick with fog, VHS-style visuals, and a droning soundtrack that makes every twig snap feel like a warning.

Progression is loose and dreamlike, with multiple endings depending on how much you explore and which secrets you uncover, so the game basically asks you to get lost on purpose and pay attention to the little details most people would ignore.
