Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis TD is the latest entry in the tower defense series that pretty much everyone who’s ever touched the genre has played at least once, and this time it’s going back to the beginning—literally. The story is a prequel that shows how the whole Kingdom Rush universe started, which means new heroes, new enemies, and a fresh set of maps to defend. If you’ve played any of the previous games, you already know the drill: enemies march along a fixed path toward your base, and you build towers along the way to stop them. But Genesis TD adds enough new toys to keep things from feeling like a retread.

The core loop is classic tower defense with the usual Kingdom Rush polish. You’ve got four main tower types—archers, mages, artillery, and barracks—and each one has multiple upgrade paths that completely change how it functions. An archer tower can become a rapid-fire sharpshooter or a long-range sniper. A barracks can spawn tougher knights or ranged defenders. Picking the right upgrade for the right lane is where the strategy lives, and the game does a good job of making you feel smart when a plan comes together. Heroes return too, and they’re more involved than ever, with active abilities you trigger manually and skill trees you level up between missions.

What’s new this time is a system where you can place temporary runes on the map that buff nearby towers or debuff enemies passing through them. It adds a layer of positioning that the older games didn’t have, and it rewards you for thinking about where fights are actually happening instead of just spamming towers at every corner. There’s also a wave preview that shows what’s coming, so you can plan instead of getting blindsided.

The campaign is long, the difficulty ramps up steadily, and there’s a ton of post-game content if you’re the type who likes to three-star every stage. If you’ve burned through the earlier Kingdom Rush games and want more, this one delivers. It’s familiar in the best way and fresh enough to justify another hundred hours of defending paths.
